In September 2009 at the Surf Life Saving New Zealand AGM the membership endorsed a new constitution for the organisation. This means significant structural change for Surf Life Saving. Below is a simple diagram explaning the new structure:
Support for the clubs in the former Bay of Plenty district will be covered by two Club Development Officers employed by Surf Life Saving, but based locally. The Club Development Officers for this area are Lachlan Knighton (covering the Coromandel clubs: Hot Water Beach, Tairua, Pauanui, Whiritoa, Onemana, Whangamata and Waihi), and Michael Lord (covering the Bay of Plenty clubs: Mt Maunganui, Omanu, Papamoa, Pukehina, Whakatane, Maketu and Opotiki).

Lachlan is a member of both New Brighton SLSC (while he was studying at University of Canterbury) and the Whangamata SLSC. He has been a National Age Group Waterpolo Representative. Lachlan has a Bachelor of Commerce with a double major. Lachlan has a real passion to work with the clubs of the Coromandel (from Waihi to Hotwater Beach) to further develop them and provide a high quality service. His office location is still to be finalised.
Lachlan can be contacted on 027 4571027, or at lachlan.knighton@surflifesaving.org.nz.

Mike’s surf life saving career started with North Beach SLSC in Christchurch where he worked as Surf Life Saving Canterbury’s Surf Sport Manager before moving to the Bay of Plenty. Mike has a very good understanding of Surf Life Saving with the Bay of Plenty having been most recently employed at SLSBOP’s Coach Force officer. Mikes broad skills in both Sport and Lifesaving will ensure a high level of service is delivered to the Clubs from Mt Maunganui to Opotoki. Mike (a former SLSNZ Leadership Group Participant) will be based in the current SLSBOP office.
Mike can be contacted on 027 4571025, or at mike.lord@surflifesaving.org.nz.
